Golden crucian is a classic float fishing target with a rounded body of golden-yellow color. Reaches weights of 2 kg.
Feeds on larvae, worms, small mollusks, and algae. A typical bottom feeder — searches for food in the silt.
Most active at 14–24 °C. Feeds mainly at dawn and dusk. May feed at night during hot spells. Responds well to stable barometric pressure. Spring feeding begins once shallows warm up.
Prefers shallows, reed beds, and lily pad areas. Favors still or slow-moving waters with muddy bottoms.
Caught on red worm, bread paste, pearl barley, dough, and maggots. Float fishing is the main method. Tackle must be as fine and sensitive as possible.
For trophy golden crucian, pre-bait the swim ahead of time. Use fine-ground feed with live components (chopped worm). Fish at dawn in a quiet spot with no competition.
