Peaceful fish
Gudgeon

Gudgeon is a small bottom-dwelling freshwater fish with barbels. Reaches weights of 200 g.

Feeds on small invertebrates, larvae, worms, and fish eggs. Forages on sandy and gravel bottoms.

Most active at 10–22 °C. Feeds throughout the warm season. Not weather-dependent. Active mainly during daylight.

Holds in shoals on shallow sections with sandy or gravel substrate. Prefers clean flowing water. Often stands on riffles.

Caught on bloodworm, worm pieces, and maggots. Light float tackle with a small hook. Bait on the bottom.

Frequently used as live bait for predator fishing. To gather baitfish: groundbait a sandy shallow and catch on bloodworm. Gudgeon survives better in a bait bucket than most species.
