Lenok is a salmonid with a trout-like appearance. Olive-brown coloring with dark speckles. Reaches weights of 6 kg.
Feeds on insects, larvae, small fish, and crustaceans. Diet resembles trout but is broader.
Most active at 4–16 °C. A cold-water species of mountain and foothill rivers. Best fishing in spring and autumn. Moves to headwaters in summer.
Holds in clean, cold rivers of Siberia and Central Asia. Stands behind boulders and on glides below riffles.
Caught on spinners, crankbaits, fly fishing (streamers and flies), and worms. Light spinning and fly fishing are the main methods.
Lenok often shares habitat with taimen but takes smaller lures. For targeted fishing, use spinners in the 3–7 g range and medium-sized streamers.
