Flathead Grey Mullet

Mullet is a coastal species of brackish waters. Has a streamlined, torpedo-shaped body with silver scales. Reaches weights of 7 kg.

Feeds on algae, detritus, and small invertebrates. A typical bottom scraper, grazing on rocks and muddy substrate.

Most active at 14–26 °C. Best fishing during the warm season. Active during the day. Enters estuaries, river mouths, and harbor areas.

Holds along coastlines, in lagoons, brackish waters, and river mouths. Moves in large schools.

Caught on bread, dough, worm, maggots, and shrimp pieces. Float fishing is the primary method. Fine, sensitive tackle.

Mullet is an excellent shore fishing target on the Black Sea and Mediterranean. Bread paste is the classic bait. Use groundbait with bread and anchovy oil.
