Nase

Peaceful fish
Nase

Nase is a river fish with a distinctive subterminal (inferior) mouth. Elongated, silvery body. Reaches weights of 2 kg.

Feeds on algae, diatom growth on stones, and detritus. Scrapes food from rock surfaces using its cartilaginous lower lip.

Most active at 12–20 °C. Migrates upstream for spawning in spring. Best fishing occurs in spring and early summer. Sensitive to water quality.

Holds in current over rocky or gravel substrate. Large shoals gather on riffles and rapids. Rarely enters still water.

Caught on dough, bread, filamentous algae, maggots, and small worms. Trotting with a float is the main method. Bait should bounce along the bottom.

Nase is an excellent species for developing trotting skills. Strike quickly — the bite is sharp and brief. Use a light float and thin hooklink.
