Prussian Carp (Gibel Carp)

Peaceful fish
Prussian Carp (Gibel Carp)

Prussian carp (gibel) is an extremely widespread and hardy freshwater species. Has silvery scales and an elongated body. Reaches weights of 3 kg.

Omnivorous with a very broad diet: larvae, worms, mollusks, algae, detritus, and even fry. Not selective about food quality.

Most active at 12–26 °C. Less demanding than golden crucian — feeds across a wider range of temperatures and weather conditions. Can bite through winter ice.

Lives in virtually any water body — from large reservoirs to small ditches. Tolerates pollution, low oxygen, and high temperatures.

Caught on red worm, maggots, bread paste, pearl barley, and sweetcorn. Float and feeder. Less wary than golden crucian — allows coarser tackle.

Trophy specimens (2+ kg) hold in large waters with strong forage. Fish drop-offs and depth transitions. Large maggots or worm-maggot sandwich are effective baits for big fish.
