Rainbow trout is a popular sport fish with a distinctive pink lateral stripe. Native to North America. Reaches weights of 12 kg.
Feeds on insects, larvae, crustaceans, fry, and pellets (in stocked waters). Diet depends on the water body type.
Most active at 8–18 °C. Adapts to a wider temperature range than brown trout. Feeds year-round. Especially active in spring and autumn. In stocked waters, bites consistently.
In wild habitats, holds on riffles and rapids. In stocked ponds, patrols the entire water body.
Caught on fly fishing (flies), spinning (spinners, soft plastics), and float (dough, sweetcorn, pellets). PowerBait dough and pellets are effective on stocked waters.
Rainbow trout is very acrobatic when hooked, leaping from the water. Use a rod with enough flex to absorb its runs. On wild rivers, apply brown trout tactics.
