Round Goby

Round goby is a widespread goby of the Black Sea basin with a bulky head and a ventral suction disc. Reaches weights of 500 g.

Feeds on mollusks (zebra mussel), worms, crustaceans, and small fish. Powerful jaws allow it to crush mussel shells.

Most active at 8–24 °C. Feeds throughout the warm season. Peak activity in spring and autumn. Less active in heat. Bites well in any weather.

Holds on rocky substrate, concrete structures, harbor piers, and breakwaters. Bottom-dwelling, hiding among rocks.

Caught on red worm, meat strips, shrimp, and squid. Leger and light float are the main methods. Bait on the bottom.

Round goby is the primary target of shore fishing on the Black and Azov Seas. For maximum catch: set multiple rods with different baits along a rocky shore. Best bites at dawn and dusk.
