Silver carp is a large filter-feeding freshwater fish native to Asia. Has a massive body with silvery scales and low-set eyes. Reaches weights of 30 kg.
Feeds on phytoplankton, filtering water through its specialized gill rakers. Does not take conventional baits — requires a specialized fishing approach.
Most active at 22–30 °C. Best fishing occurs on hot, calm days. Stops feeding below 15 °C. Frequently leaps from the water in summer — a sign of its presence.
Holds in open water far from shore. Moves in large schools through upper and mid-water layers.
Caught on technoplankton — specialized compressed cylinders that dissolve in water creating a cloud of micro-particles. Also caught on plankton-infused pastes. Requires a specialized trembling rig with a float.
For trophy specimens, fish large reservoirs in July–August. Cast 30–50 m from shore. Replace technoplankton every 1.5–2 hours. Use heavy tackle — silver carp fights incredibly hard.
