Skimmer Bream

Peaceful fish
Skimmer Bream

Skimmer bream is the juvenile stage of bream weighing up to 1 kg. Has a more silvery body than adult bream.

Feeds on bloodworm, small worms, and insect larvae. Forages on the bottom but is less efficient than mature bream.

Most active at 12–24 °C. Feeds throughout the warm season and through winter ice. Less weather-sensitive than adult bream.

Holds in large shoals at moderate depths near adult bream. Ventures onto shallows more frequently.

Caught on bloodworm, maggots, and red worm. Float and light feeder. Often the main catch in feeder competitions.

To upgrade from skimmers to full-sized bream, switch to larger baits (maggot bunches, sandwiches), feed a drop-off point, and fish at longer range.
